(These are general guidelines.)
Before you begin:
- Ensure your Door Armor Low Profile Door Shields match your door's lockset spacing (5-1/2" on-center).
- Gather the following tools:
- head screwdriver
- Pencil (optional)
Installation Steps:
- Remove Existing Hardware (Optional): For optimal fit, remove the door handle and deadbolt from the interior side of your door. This is optional, but may provide easier access during installation.
- Position the Door Shield: Locate the strike plate on your door frame (the metal plate where the door latch meets). Align the Door Armor shield with the strike plate, ensuring the screw holes match up.
- Mark the Screw Holes (Optional): If removing the hardware wasn't necessary, use a pencil to lightly mark the screw hole locations through the Door Armor onto the door frame.
- Secure the Door Shield: Using a Phillips head screwdriver, drive the provided screws through the Door Armor and into the door frame. Ensure the shield sits flush against the door frame.
- Reattach Hardware (Optional): If you removed the door handle and deadbolt in step 1, reattach them now.
- Test Functionality: Open and close the door several times to ensure the latch and deadbolt operate smoothly without interference from the Door Armor shield.
Additional Tips:
- If the screws don't seem to catch on the door frame, consider using slightly longer screws of the same type.
- Door Armor recommends consulting a professional for installation if you're unsure about any steps.
